greater kansas city day

for the fourth year in a row opening day for the Royals (also known as Greater Kansas City day) did not start off well weather-wise. unlike last year, this morning was warm but no sooner did we start selling newspapers (as a fundraiser for Rotary Club #13 and the Rotary Youth Camp), it started to rain. and rain. and hail. and thunder. and lightning. and rain some more.

we tried 2 attempts at selling papers, both times having to stop due to lightning. you can't say we didn't try!

it was nice to see the sun come out just in time for the first pitch and it stayed out the entire game. unfortunately, the royals lost but it was still a great way to spend a day!

hoppy easter!

we spent easter in kansas city for a change and what a glorious easter it was! friends invited us to join them for church and easter brunch (baked french toast, scrambled eggs with ham and asparagus, fruit salad and mimosas). later, vokey served as grand marshall for the easter egg hunt we hosted for the neighborhood kids.

it was almost 80 degrees and sunny so everyone enjoyed time out of doors and firing up the grill for a non traditional (but tasty) easter dinner.

blast from the past

remember us?! we've emerged from a long winter of hibernation. honestly, i can't tell you what we've been doing these past few months other than trying to stay warm during a gray and cold winter but we've managed to stay busy.

this past week has brought sunshine and temperatures in the 80s--quite a change from the snow storm we had on the first day of spring just a few weeks ago! today's group run started from cascone's in the river market. after breakfast, mike and i headed to fervere bread and while waiting for them to open, enjoyed a walk around the neighborhood. we joined the line outside of fervere and were awarded with a loaf of their delicious bread--whole grain travel.

lunch found us trying a new-for-us restaurant, Woodyard Barbeque, where we shared a smoked salmon sandwich and a turkey/sausage sandwich and sides outside on the deck. did i mention how fabulous the weather is?!

after a long day of errands and dinner from the grill, we decided to get our first taste of Murray's this season and, as usual, it did not disappoint. i had amaretto + almonds and easter basket (white chocolate ice cream with malt balls and m+m's) while mike had chocolate flake formage and butterscotch. yum!

hopefully this is just the first of many sunny, warm, fun (and bloggable) weekends in the coming months!
